The green problem/an infra-red answer

I’m going on holiday next week. That is exciting but the place I’m going, Northumberland, is very green. I don’t know if you’ve noticed but when I’m in green places I’m in green places I lean towards black and white:

I JUST DON’T ENJOY LOTS OF GREEN IN PHOTOS

I may have found the answer. Kodak IR Aerochrome is a discontinued colour infra-red film with a very groovy look. Blues can lean a little cyan which I like in a sky and greens go red and pink. I, of course, won’t be shooting an extremely rare and expensive discontinued film but I will be using Lightroom to give a similar look to digital images.

This morning I took a stroll in the park and shot some green shit and I think I’m liking the results. I will quickly need to try it on skin tones but the few I’ve seen so far seem pretty good.

What do you think?

May ’round are way

What happened in May? I honestly can’t remember but let me pop into the images folder and find out.

It seems it was just food, dinosaurs & cats.

Going on a short family holiday at the end of June so maybe that will be more photographically fruitful.

Sketches of Easter and a New Toy

All the film gear has been sold. All the dev gear too. Also sold the XF 16mm f/1.4. It was a great lens but the size was going to limit its power as an everyday option.

All this sales went towards the new Fuji X100V and I’m very glad I did. It’s a pleasure to shoot and image quality is what you’d expect.

A rare ride on the subway and a walk in a different park

We don’t ride the Glasgow Underground much. It doesn’t come by our side of the city but today we were heading to the West End. No special reason: we just wanted to walk round a park we haven’t already walked round ten times this week. Covid lockdown certainly lowers your expectations off a fun day out.

I have also been playing around with shine new colour edits and I’m pretty happy with it.

These were all shot on the go with my X-T2 and the big 16mm f/1.4 (that thing gets a bit heavy after a few hours but the upgrade in image quality compared to the f/2.8 version is definitely worth it.

Why not drop a comment and get some chat going. Any subject, the lens, the edit, the composition, whatever…

Lockdown Diaries #8

Guess what? Nothing happened. Took a long walk with a friend. Shot nothing along the way. Still rocking the big 16mm at home.

My grand plans of using nothing else fell apart after importing these shots as I mount the old 35mm again and used that for a night. I’ll probably do that again soon, it felt like comfy old shoes; so familiar, so easy.

What have you lot been up to?
