A late autumn walk in the sun

Blue skies over Glasgow today so I took the X-Pro 1 for a walk.

Like most weekend walks it started with a stroll through the Barras and shooting some of the curios found there. Who wants an old ‘I’ve been to Sellafield badge?’

Haven’t made a portrait of psychadelic Frankie for a few years so I did that today. I’m sure you can guess which one he is. Frankie is in the Barras most weekends – if you’re ever in town go talk to him and ask where we came from – the man sure can tell a tale or two.

After a wee chat with Frankie some joker saved me from taking a very boring photo of Scottish faff whilst muttering something about permission.

From the Barras I passed through the Xmas market and up Buchanan St. There is usually some action or protest to be had there and today was no different. Scottish Iranians were calling for regime change in Iran. Good luck to them.

Finished off with a couple grab shots of some quality grafitti (I cropped out ‘cum guzzler’ seeing how it was the Sabbath). Then it was home for some handmade bhajis, a Donnie Darko rewatch and a mini nap about halfway through the film.

Good day indeed.

Stevenston Beach

I don’t shoot much colour film but when I do it sits around for a while until I have enough worth developing. It’s quite nice to have that wee surprise. I had forgotten most of these images in the month between shooting and developing.

A nice day lazing on the beach and a swim in the sea – until the thunder storm came and chased us away.

Camera Obscura/World of Illusions/Photographers Wet Dream

We have been putting off going to Camera Obscura & World of Illusions in Edinburgh for years but we’re glad we finally did; the place is like photography porn (and it’s fun for the kid).

After carrying Big Boy around Edinburgh yesterday I fancied travelling light and the old X-Pro 1 with the little 18mm f/2 fit the bill perfectly. All these images will need a click to see the full image.

High ISO jpgs and a story of cute kittens and kids

Last year we were on holiday inTurkey and like every good resort the hotel had some cats. This particular one we called Griffen. At least, the child called it Griffen.

We explained Griffen was a stray and just lived around the pool relying on guests bringing it food. The child asked “if it doesn’t have a house where does it keep it’s toys?”

Learning the cat didn’t have its own toys, Penny offered it the chance to play with her little Kitty toy, but Griffen quickly became a bit TOO fond of Kitty and I had to wrestle her out of Griffens claws.

Penny melted our hearts by asking “Can I use some of my pocket money to get a toy for Griffen?”

That’s how a little stray called Griffen got his first toy. No, I don’t know why that toy is a blue flamingo.

For the camera nerds – these were Fuji X-T2 SOOC jpgs shot at ISO 12800 – XF 35mm f/1.4 – Pro Neg Std with Strong Grain and a little extra contrast

Sure, these images are noisy and that sacrifices a little detail, but what’s a little noise if it means the difference between getting the shot and not?

That other Scottish city/the shite one

Four posts in four days – I’m too good to you lot.

So, Scotland’s central belt has this other city and to be frank, it’s a bit pish, but sometimes we go there for a laugh. Like blessing the poor buggars with our west coast presence..

A few months ago I became a tourist and went there. Shot a few rolls of HP5+ with the Kiron 28mm f/2; a high resolving lens with a serious barrel distortion problem.

I did find a cute cafe near the castle which let us chose the music and it was all cassette. I’d call them hipsters but I was shooting film on a 1980s SLR.

As usualmênt the HP5+ was pushed two stops and developed in Xtol by my own fair hand.

Feel free to tell me how terrible the pictures are and that I’m in no way to blame because it’s just terrible subject matter 😀
